Location: Sew What? Quilt Shop
Date: 2009-03-28
Start Time: 10:00
End Time: 3:00
Instructor: Ann Shaw
Cost: $30.00

This is a method class to teach you how to do the quilting on your home machine.  You do need a reliable machine with a walking foot and a darning foot that are made for it (the generic ones tend not to work very well).  We do a LOT of talking about the “hows” and then play with a practice piece that is included in the class price.  This is definitely a ‘must’ class.

Description: Class 1 of 2
Date: 2009-04-21
Start Time: 6:30
End Time: 9:00
Instructor: Linda Davis
Cost: $30.00

In her book, Simple Traditions Kim Diehl writes about this quilt, “Gracefully arching plumes and richly hued stars blend image004our quilting heritage with a taste of modern style, and the result is simply spectacular.  These aren’t your grandmother’s feathered stars!”  I say she is right; this quilt is well worth having.  There are basic stars and machine appliqué.  I choose to turn under the edges on my appliqué but you may choose fusible appliqué.  Construction of the borders is simple but very different and very good!  In class you will complete each technique needed to complete the wall hanging.

Calling any quilter who has blocks leftover from classes! Or who has started to assemble a quilt and now has partial image008rows or sets of blocks! Or who has started a quilt and something went wrong, leaving you with parts of blocks! Or who has bits and pieces of fabric projects clogging their drawers and boxes and bags! Or who has participated in an “exchange” but doesn’t know what to do with the blocks! And even any quilter who has purchased antique blocks. These are your “orphans”. ANYTHING from leftover strips sewn together to partially  finished quilts up to about 36″ square will work – nothing with batting please. Give those orphans a good and loving home. Create a one-of-a-kind, “make-do” quilt out of any and all of the above.

Magic MelonsI loved making this quilt and I think you will too. It is a quilt-as-you-go, so you get to use up those batting leftovers. I made 2 quilts with completely different types of fabrics, one scrap and one organized and both look great. Love it. We will explore the many things that can be done with this quilt including altering sizes of the blocks, feature fabrics and so much more.
