What great fun Fat Quarter Tuesday was!

2009-c 2009-a 2009-b

We hope all of you had as much fun as we did!  It is always great to see you all. The better part of January and February were spent preparing for the event and it seems it is over in the blink of an eye!!   And of course our success is all because of you.  A very heartfelt thanks.  Just in case any of you would like to make plans for next year, Fat Quarter Tuesday will be held on Tuesday, February 16th, 2010.

The winner of our basket was Linda Hejna, from Cheektowaga, Congratulations Linda!

New fabrics are coming in almost every day.  The new release of Wizard of Oz has arrived as well as the new line by our hometown girl, Nancy Davis Murty. “Alpha Buddies” has gotten lots of attention.  Kits are available for the pattern featured on the Andover website.  Stop by and see our sample. If you would like us to reserve you a kit, e-mail us, call or stop by, we’ll make sure you get one. Have you seen Flower Fairies?  We have many ”too cute for words” fabrics from Michael Miller.  As always, the newsletter has a sampling of some of the great new fabrics that have come in recently.  With graduations, weddings and many other big events coming up this spring stop by; we’re sure you’ll find something for that special gift.

Our next big event, the 6th Annual Western New York Shop Hop will be June 10th – 13th.  As usual there will be goody bags and drawings for fabric prizes and a brand new sewing machine.  Each shop will have a different block pattern (this year’s theme is floral blocks). If you are a new quilter and have never done a shop hop before, this is an event you don’t want to miss.  It’s so much fun to see all the similarities and differences among the participating shops.  More details will follow as we get closer to the date.

Coming in March…

We are going to host a quilting magazine swap.  All of us have magazines that we have enjoyed but hate to just throw away.  Drop them off and browse through those already here.  Take what you’d like.  Everyone is welcome to participate.   We will run this through the entire month of March.  Any magazines left over, we will try to find a good home for.  If you know of any group that may want them, let us know.

What do you think of when the month of February begins?  Some might think of Valentine’s Day. Others think about the kids being home for a week and how will they keep busy.  Still others think about their long weekend of quilting at Chautauqua.  But here at Sew What?, February holds our favorite day of the year.  We can’t wait til FAT TUESDAY!

Mark your calendars girls, February 24th is FAT TUESDAY!   We be opening early and staying late.   As in the past, we have been cutting and folding fat quarters since the beginning of January.  In addition to regular cottons, this year we are adding batik fat quarters to our sale.  The price for regular cottons will remain at $1.25 this year.  The batiks will be $1.75.  And as always, it’s not Fat Tuesday without a special drawing, refreshments and catching up with your fellow quilters.  We hope to see all of you here.

Don’t forget about classes this month.  We have a cute Bunny Table runner class.  This runner is so cute, you’ll not only want to make one for yourself, but surprise a friend or two for Easter.  “Blueberry Cobbler” is coming up as well.  Just can’t help but think of warm summer months when you think of blueberries!  Make sure you check our website for a full list of classes.

The new fabrics have started coming in.  We have received several gorgeous Orientals, great spring florals and are still waiting for new batiks. Nancy Davis Murty’s new line, called Alpha Buddies, is attracting lots of attention and many other great fabrics are arriving daily. (Ann went little nuts with ordering this year!)

Tip Of The Month

Looking for a surface to cut on?

Try your dryer.  Your rotary mat won’t slide off and it is a great height for most quilters.
