Archive for June, 2009

We hope everyone had a great time doing the WNY Shop Hop last month.  We had a great time!!  Mother Nature was a good sport this year, keeping temperatures comfortable and rain to a minimum. We had a great turn out this year with 227 people getting to all 9 shops.  (See page 4 for a list of the winners)  That gives each of you a one in eleven chance of winning.  Great odds!  Keep that in mind when planning for the next shop hop, the 3rd Annual “Quilters Quest” Shop Hop will be held September 10th – 12th, 2009.  We will have seven local shops participating in this one.  It’s in a much smaller geographic region, and it can easily be completed in one day.  Mark your calendars for another fun event.  More details to follow as the dates get closer.
We would like to thank Bunny Leighton for being our “Quilter of the Month” during June.  Bunny, a local artist, was gracious enough to spend time with us on Saturday of the WNY Shop Hop.  She gave everyone that came into the shop a note card and pattern, both of which she designed.  If you missed Bunny’s quilts, or would like to get any of her patterns, let us know.  We will be happy to order them for you.
Quilt Market orders continue to arrive daily.  There are great new patterns, gizmos, gadgets, fabrics and general fun stuff arriving daily!  We have new Halloween, Christmas, Diane Phalen, Americana, reproductions and many more new fabrics.  The Flower Fairies continue to generate excitement, and our batiks are bursting from their allotted shelves.  We are clearancing our flannels, please come take advantage of the great deals.  The yardage is half price, and our flannel fat quarters are only a dollar.
Please make sure you check the website for our summer class list.  We don’t usually run classes in the summer, but so many of you requested them, we obliged.   The Fit to Frame class is tons of fun with lots of individual options.  These smaller quilts are made it fit into standard frames, to give your quilts a different look.  The ‘Blooming Nine Patch’ is one of the most popular quilt classes we have, and the ‘Venetian Tiles’ is a neat, new method that is fun and easy to make.  Sign up soon, as class sizes are limited and some are filling quickly.
As always, we appreciate your business and hope to see you soon!

WNY Shop Hop 2009

“I think I’ll just sit for a minute”

“There are so many wonderful fabrics here.”

“I found the perfect match for your fabric!”

How much like a patchwork quilt we are,
Some of us are bright and gay.
Some are quieter, more delicate and subdued;
Yet how well we blend together.
The quieter ones set off the colorful.
The brighter ones accentuate the pastels.
Often the more fragile pieces hold the sturdy ones together.
Blessed we are to be varied.
All of us are stitched with love and tied to one another.

Girls Night Out

Friday July 31th, 2009
6:00 pm to 10:00 pm

Spring sure makes us want to get into our gardens, doesn’t it? The weather has finally turned, and everyone wants to be in the sun.   So many quilters are also gardeners.   Early blooming flowers bring us inspiration for the quilts that give us comfort   throughout the whole year.  The link must be color.  We were impressed by the color arrays and skill levels at two recent shows.  The Twin City Quilt Guild show and the Clarence Log Cabin Quilt Guild show were both very inspiring.  It makes my fingers itch to get at the machine!  Our congratulations go out to the committees of both shows for a job well done.  We are privileged to be among so many with so much talent.

This year, we attended Quilt Market in Pittsburgh, PA.  We spent three days among all the fabric companies, book and pattern publishers as well as small companies that continue to make innovative tools to help make quilting more enjoyable and/or faster.  There are lots and lots of new patterns and fun things to be stimulated by.  It was exhausting, exciting, and exhilarating all at the same time!    While we did try to remember the budget, we couldn’t help ordering some of these new ideas and products.   Things have already started arriving, so stop by soon.

Upcoming events include the WN Y Shop Hop.  As always we will have block patterns and gifts at each participating shop.  Get your passports stamped and be entered to win one of our many prizes.  Prizes, drawn from all the completed passports, include one of 9 gift baskets, 24 yards of fabric, and the grand prize of a new Baby Lock sewing machine.  We can’t wait to see all of you sometime between June 10th and 13th.  See complete information on page 4 of this newsletter.

You really have to stop by and see all that’s new here at the store.  New products and fabrics arrive daily.  We have samples of all our summer classes as well as samples of upcoming fall classes on display. Beginners are welcome at nearly all the classes.  Check the website for the complete list of days and times.   Please remember we have gone to our summer hours for now through Labor Day.  Hours are at the top of the page.
