Archive for July, 2009

In past times, the month of August brought us the 3 H’s – hazy, hot and humid!  We would sit on the front porch swing, sipping lemonade. We might be doing some hand appliqué or browsing through our quilt magazines dreaming of projects to do, but couldn’t deal with the heat long enough to get anything actually accomplished!   With so many more homes air conditioned, we can enjoy our favorite hobby all year round.  I find that just pawing through my stash or sewing a couple of seams has a calming effect at the end of a hectic or stressful day.  Even if I don’t have a whole lot of time, I need the therapeutic nature of our art.   So get up there girls!  Your sewing machine beckons you!!  Consider asking a friend for a “playdate” and sew for a morning. Or if you’re lucky, plan a retreat with a couple of girlfriends, and spend three days in quilting bliss!  It will make you a better person!

Here at Sew What? we are getting ready for the “3rd Annual Quilter’s Quest Shop Hop” to be held Thursday, September 10th through Saturday, September 12th.  With all the participating shops in Erie and Niagara counties, you can easily accomplish the goal of reaching all of us over a three day period.  There will be some fabulous prizes, and you have a one in thirty chance of winning one of them.  We’re lucky to have such excellent choices in our local shops, and it is great fun to see them all.   Every shop has its own flavor, and fills a specific niche.  All the shops will have extended hours and are listed on page 4 of this newsletter.

New stock continues to arrive daily, including new Halloween and Christmas fabrics.  This year we are very excited about our two tree skirt/table toppers.  They are quick and easy projects to make for your own home or give as the perfect gift for someone special.   Holiday fabrics are always a big hit and go quickly, so plan ahead for gift-giving season.

When I was at Allentown Art Festival, I met a woman who made art handbags out of Men’s ties.  If you have a collection of ties you don’t know what to do with, she would be very interested in your donations.  Her name is Linda Schornstein and her e-mail is tiestogeter@gmail.com .  If you’d like, you could drop them off here, and I can get them to her.  Quilters help each other out, that’s why I love us!

Don’t forget our classes!  We have an excellent line up for the summer, and are working on some fabulous stuff for the fall list.   All levels of experience are welcome.  Sew What has the calmest and most knowledgeable teachers in the area, who stress the fun of it all…isn’t that why we do it?  Click “class list” on the website for more information.
