We are ready for a great Fat Quarter Tuesday on March 8, 2011! The shop has thousands of fat quarters folded and waiting for you to grab at great prices; $1.50 each and $1.75 for Batik fat quarters. We open our doors extra early at 9:00 am and stay open late till 7:00 pm. Everyone has a chance to shop – before work, after work, lunch time or even your break…stop by and pick up a few fats for your stash!! ! This serious discount will be available ONLY on that day, so make sure you put it on your calendar today!

Northcott Silk Inc. president Brian O’Rourke recently filled retailers in on some of the reasons for the increase in fabric prices. Poor crops, tropical storms and tremendous monsoons in China and Pakistan (where much of the world’s cotton is grown) have wrecked havoc in the supply and demand market, giving these growers a lot of control over prices. Typically prices will vary from 5-10% during the year; but in the last few months prices have increased over 30%! He went on to say his company has been able to integrate the small increases in the past, but with these types of increases, they can no longer afford to do so. This means the increase is passed on to us, the customer.  Cotton yard goods are not the only places we will see these increases.  CNN has reported recently that consumers should expect to pay more for Tee shirts, socks and underwear as well!  (a good reason to take advantage of the Fat Quarter Tuesday sale!)

Cost:  $35.00

This is a method class to teach you how to do the quilting on your home machine.  You need a reliable machine with a walking foot and a darning foot that are made for it (the generic ones tend not to work very well).  We do a LOT of talking about the “how’s” and then play with a practice piece that is included in the class price.  This is definitely a ‘must’ class.  You’ll definitely get some tips that will make your job easier, making the cost of the class worthwhile.

New Books Coming in March

This Kay Mackenzie book is full of  wonderful appliqué designs. It is a follow-up to her book, Easy Appliqué Blocks and has many new designs in it. W can’t wait to get it in the shop to show you.

This is a collection of motifs from over 26 years of Quiltmaker magazine. Can you imagine having them all in one spot and the value is just incredible?

Quilters Gallery

Our featured Quilter of the month during March is Kaye West. Kaye is a former garment maker and cross-stitcher whom began quilting in 1998. The first project Kaye completed was a Triple Irish Chain quilt in a class she took from Ann at the first Sew What? location. She strongly feels that quilts should “make you happy” and is known for her love of high contrast colors and beautiful scrappy quilts. Kaye frequently says “Chartreuse is a neutral – it goes with everything.” and “Quilts don’t always have to be historical, sometimes they can be hysterical!”   When you display your quilts in our gallery it gives everyone who comes into the store, and the entire quilting community, opportunity to view the vast array of local quilting styles, colors and techniques. While quilts are on display, photos will be taken and a CD created so you can maintain a record of your exhibition. During the month you are displaying your quilts, you will receive a 20% discount in the store. We welcome all levels to participate in this exciting opportunity! Call the store to sign up for an upcoming month. We look forward to hearing from you.

Girl’s Night Out!

Girl’s Night Out will be on Friday, March 25th. We’ll start around 6:00 pm and go until 9:30 pm. The cost is $8.00. Don’t forget to bring your UFO’s, orphans and any other quilting projects you are working on and we’ll have a great night out! We usually order take-out, but you certainly can bring your own dinner. All are welcome and we look forward to seeing you in March.
