Sew What News and Notions…
Now that our feet have had a chance to recover from our 10th annual Fat Quarter Tuesday Sale, we’d like to take a moment to thank you all for making it another banner year. It was a wonderful day full of fun and activity! If you are wondering how Fat Quarter Tuesday got started, look no farther than our own Joelle Priddy! In 2001, right after Ann moved into this shop, Joelle introduced the idea of selling fat quarters on “Fat Tuesday” the day before lend and day of Mardi Gar. It has been a huge success ever since. Joelle has since moved to Colorado with her family, but she is sorely missed each year. Thank you Joelle!
Sew What? along with hundreds of other quilt shops around the country have joined American Patchwork & Quilting for its 1 Million Pillowcase Challenge. In fact, there have been over 250,000 pillowcases made and the next goal is to have 350,000 pillowcases done by June 1st. Please join us by making a pillowcase (or two) then donating them to a foster child, cancer patient, victim of domestic abuse or other charity in our community. Use your talents to ease some sadness in others lives. Go to www.allpeoplequilt.com/million/pillowcases for more information. Stop in our shop today to pick up the supplies needed, or you can choose from one of our many pillowcase kits. Stop in and get yours today.

Quilter of the Month…
Sew What? is pleased to announce the Quilter of the Month for April is Natalie Masker. Natalie is a locally well known quilt expert who has been a member of the Amherst Quilt Guild since the early ’80’s. Natalie figures that over the years, she has probably started thousands of quilts and finished hundreds. She has extensive knowledge of historic quilts and fabrics and is only one of two certified AQS quilt appraisers in the area. Because of her expertise and knowledge, Natalie is frequently called upon to be a judge in local quilt shows. She also loves being a judge, “because it gives me an opportunity to see lots and lots of quilts close up.” If you would like to have a quilt of your own appraised, or perhaps you have an antique quilt that you’re interested in getting more information on, stop in the shop and pick up one of Natalie’s business cards, she will be happy to help you.
As Quilter of the Month, when you display your quilts it gives local quilters, and everyone who comes into the store, an opportunity to view your talent and see the vast array of local quilting styles, colors and techniques. While quilts are on display, photos will be taken and a CD created so you can maintain a record of your exhibition. During the month you display your quilts, you will receive a 20% discount in the store. We welcome all levels to participate in this exciting opportunity! Call the store at (716) 632-8801, or stop in to sign up for an upcoming month. We look forward to hearing from you!
