Quilter of the Month
Kay Robinson is our Quilter of the Month for October. Kay began her quilting journey taking Ann Shaw’s “Beginners Quilting by Hand” class in 1997. Instead of making the typical four block sampler, Kay decided to make a 12 block lap quilt and two pillow tops. She finished them in 1998, complete with hand quilting. After working as a Registered Nurse for 43 years, Kay retired and spends more time quilting. She enjoys every aspect of quilting, but loves hand quilting in particular with portability being one reason. Kay still hand pieces on occasion, “just for the fun of it” she says.
Now a grandmother, Kay takes great pride being able to teach her granddaughters how to quilt. They have each completed a lap quilt (machine pieced and tied) and place mats. “Teaching a new generation to quilt is almost as much fun as quilting yourself – almost – but not quite.”
As Quilter of the Month everyone who comes into the store and the entire quilting community will have an opportunity to view your talents and see the vast array of styles, colors and techniques we have in our area. While your quilts are on display, photos are taken and a CD created to maintain a record of your exhibition. Also during the month of your exhibition, you will receive a 20% discount in the store. Any quilter at any level can participate. We love seeing other people’s work styles, and don’t worry if they are not quilted! In fact, “tops” are easier for us to hang up!! Call the store at 632-8801 or go towww.sewwhatquiltshop.com to sign up for a future month.
Do you get tired of picking up the loose threads in your sewing room? If so, try this neat little trick: using a sheet from a lint remover roll, fold it over and stick it to a part of your sewing table (in reach) and easily stick all your loose ends to it.
