If you enjoy making stack and whack quilts, well, this is even better! Use just one fabric, just one shape, and easy sewing to create the artistic quilt of your dreams. The fabric does the work for you. Once all the blocks are made, then you play with placement. Since this is a fluid design, there is no pre determined size of the finished quilt. Come and join the fun.

Title: Venetian Tiles
Location: SewWhat? Quilt Shop
Instructor: Diana Brock
Description: 1 quilting class
Date: 02-26-2010
Start Time: 10:00 AM
End Time: 3:00 PM
Cost: $30.00

Much simpler than it looks, this pattern is actually made from simple 9-patch Venetian Tilesblocks!   Cut the 9 patches with the X-Block ruler, and then sew them together into rows!  The cut-off pieces become the borders.  Try it with a scrappy look like the floral sample, or in a more controlled palette.  This is a great technique and you will be surprised at how simple it really is.

blooming nine patchThis quilt gives the impression of a color wash with the simplest of piecing…nothing but 9-patches and squares.  On the cover of the book Traditions with a Twist, it is shown in wild floral fabrics.  Our model is done in black and white.  We have simplified a building process that eliminates laying out the many squares and prevents sewing something in the wrong place.

log cabin polkaDots and stripes in bright colors have made this derivative of the Log Cabin a very cheerful quilt.  It isn’t as hard as it looks. Using half log cabin blocks to make the 4 segments in each block and a variety of fabrics, you’ll have this jewel done in no time at all. What a wonderful way to deplete scraps from your stash and make room for new fabric!
